Addie Mae Ponds Brown, age 89 of Morrilton, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016. Born November 2, 1927 in Morrilton, Arkansas, she was the eldest child of James E. and Lucille Manuel Ponds.She was preceded in death by her sister Geraldine Ponds Bonds and brother James M. Ponds, and twin brothers Carl and Charles Ponds. On December 25th 1955, she married Perry W. Brown in Rockford, Illinois.She is survived by her husband Perry W. Brown,her children Perry T. Brown [Monica (deceased)] and Kimberly Brown, her grandchildren, Perry A. Brown, Nolan P. Brown, MacKenzie J. Brown, her siblings, Shirley Stanford (Hosea), Helen Holloway, James ""George"" Ponds (Mary), Delores Campbell, Waymon (Cora)and Ronald (Gwen). Addie graduated from L.W. Sullivan High School (Morrilton), Shorter College (N. Little Rock) and Rust College (Holly Springs, Mississippi).She became a teacher and taught for eight years in Hughes Arkansas Public Schools. Addie was a military wife and she and Perry spent over 20 years in the Army.During his career, she lived overseas in France and Germany and several military bases in the United Sates. Addie was raised in the St. Paul AME Church.After the military service ended, she returned to Morrilton and again became a faithful member of St. Paul.Over the years, Addie distinguished herself by leading the Benevolent Mission of the church.Until her health began to fail, she and the mission ensured the sick and shut-in were always remembered in kind and thoughtful ways with gifts and other items to make their lives more joyous.Addie will always be remembered in her community for often extending smiles, gifts and encouraging words to anyone she felt needed support and compassion. Funeral service for Mrs. Brown will be Thursday, November 10, 2016, 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul AME Church in Morrilton by Rev. Torre Kindle. Interment will be in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery 1501 West Maryland Avenue, North Little Rock, Arkansas. The body will lie in state from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. the day of the funeral at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to The Safe Place Morrilton, P.O.
