Obituary

Sister Athalene Foster Cato was born October 17, 1910 to the late George and Essie Milner Foster.She was the second oldest of ten siblings. She peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 16, 2015 in her home under the watchful care of her devoted daughter, Gladys Mae Cato. Psalms 91:16 was fulfilled in her lifetime of 104 blessed years old. With long life will I satisfy her and shew her my salvation. Sister Cato was one of the oldest women in Conway County and the oldest in the Sardis Community where she was born and raised. She united in holy matrimony to the late L. C. Cato.To this union, eight children were born.She was preceded in death by three sons, Melvin Cato, George Cato, and Lewis Cato; three daughters, Cilistine Cato, Lillie Mae Cato Pledger, and Gertha Rankin.She was also preceded in death by two brothers; L.T. Foster (Bullie), Nathaniel Foster (Brother), and two sisters, Canzader Foster Hood (Noonie), and Louise Garrett; two grandchildren, Shirley Perry, and Brenda Perry. Sister Cato received Christ at the age of 12 and was a member of the Golden Light Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Church Secretary.She remained at Golden Light until the church moved to Union Hill and there she served 17 years as Church Secretary.She also served on the Mothers Board and taught Sunday School for a period of time.The church is now known as Greater Union Hill Baptist Church and she was a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending. Mrs. Cato attended school at Mt. Zion and later became a substitute teacher all while being a homemaker and mother to her children. She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy, one son; Charles (Gloria) Cato, Morrilton, AR; three daughters, Gladys Cato, and Veronica Pledger, Morrilton, AR and LaKeisha Pledger, Springfield, MO; four siblings, Aree Foster, William Foster, and Essie Acklin, Morrilton, AR, and Jureatha Fleming, Benton Harbor, MI; nine grandchildren, Kenneth Perry, Larry Cato, Daryl Cato, Sharon Cato, Rodney Cato, Travis Cato, Jimmy Hall, C. J. Cato, Caleb Cato, and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.She also leaves to mourn her passing her Honorary Daughter, Ms. Brenda Criswell. Funeral service for Mrs. Cato will be Saturday, April 25, 2015 11:00 A.M. at Greater Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 58 Sandtown Rd, Morrilton by Rev. C.J. Linsay. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Morrilton. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. the day of the funeral.
