Tech 5 Charlie Stricklen was born April 27, 1921 to the late Carline (Thornton) Stricklen and Samuel Stricklen in Morrilton, Arkansas. He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age, at St. Paul AME Church in Morrilton. He later joined Greater Union Hill Baptist Church in 196, where he served as an usher. He served in WWII from 1942-1946. He received several medals, the American Theater Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Service Star, Phillippine Liberation Ribbon G023HQ-USAFFE 45. He was qualified as a Rifle Marksman and fought in the Battle of New Guinea. He was employed as a carpenter construction worker andas a Union Pacific Railroad worker. He farmed in the Sandtown Bottom area and also worked at the Cotton Gin and the Cotton Mill. He served as a Junior Vice Commander Chapter 13 D.A.V. He was married to the late Emily (Simpson) Stricklen January 26, 1948. They were married for over 50 years. Three children preceded him death, infant Georgia Stricklen, Alice (Stricklen) Posey, and Minnie (Carolina) Thomas, ten sisters and brothers also preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing: three sons: David Carolina Jr. (Ruby), Johnnie Carolina (Norma), Larry D. Stricklen, four daughters: Ruth Criswell, Charline Lockett (Leroy), Gloria Leapheart (Kenneth) and Debbie Hersey (Glenn), 31 grandchildren, 67 great-great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren, two brothers: Carl Stricklen (Geneva) of Kansas City, KS and Lee Allen Stricklen, two uncles, George W. Thornton of California and James Thornton of Illinois. Funeral service for Mr. Stricklen will be Friday, November 9, 2012 at 9:00 A.M. at Greater Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church 58 Sandtown Rdin Morrilton by Rev. Phillip Pointer, Sr. of St. Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock. The body will lie in state from 8:00 to 9:00 the day of the funeral at the church. Burial will be in Little Rock National Cemetery 2523 Confederate Blvd. Visitation is from 2:00 to 6:00 , Thursday, at the funeral home chapel.
