Dr. Joan V. Sanders 83, of Conway, Arkansas transitioned on October 26, 2023. Dr. Joan V. Sanders was born April 28, 1940, in Brookyln, Illinois to the late Wilson Rattler Sr. and Octavia Hunter. Joan spent her youth as a member of Southern Mission Baptist Church in Brooklyn, IL, she later joined Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Plumerville, AR under the Pastorship of Rev. Dr. David E. Cox where she was a faithful member until her health began to fail her. In May of 1982 she graduated from Hampton Institute with her bachelor's degree in nursing. On February 4, 1988, Joan married Billie J. Sanders at Candlelight Wedding Chapel, Las Vegas, Nevada. They both worked in Saudi Arabia. She was a nurse and worked at King Faisal Hospital in Riyadh (Nursing Director) as a civilian contractor. He worked at King Abdulaziz Naval Jubail Base (Military Advisor) as a Department of Defense Contractor. They both retired after 20 years in September 2001. They lived in Bowling, Kentucky for 10 years and then moved to Conway, Arkansas. In April 1993, Joan received her (MSN) Master of Science in Nursing from: Western Pacific University, Los Angeles, California. In December 1995 she received her (PhD) Doctor of Philosophy from Western Pacific University, Los Angeles, California. They traveled a lot and visited almost every county in Europe. To name a few, London, England, Paris, France, Amsterdam, Holland, Frankfort, Germany, and Bangkok, Thailand. They also went on twelve cruises with the one on Queen Elizabeth the 2nd (QE2) being most remembered. The Cruise to Alaska was also a great one. She was a member of several sororities, including Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Beta Pi Omega, Little Rock, AR, Order of the Eastern Star (OES) Morrilton Star, Eureka, Lily of the Valley Chapter 16 where she served as Worthy Matron, she also served as Associate Loyal Lady Ruler of Sylvia Harris Assembly # 76, she served as Illustrious Commandress for the Daughters (Shriners) she was a member of Heroines of Jerico, Keystone Court # 4, and Little Rock Guild # 2. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Bertina Reynolds and Lavera Rattler; brothers Anthony Rattler and Trumane (Val) Thomas. Dr. Joan V. Sanders is survived by her loving husband; Billie J. Sanders; three children, Valerie (Robert) Butler, Byron Adams, and Angela Octavia Adams; Eight grandchildren, Marcus Chandler, Monique Chandler Filkins, Jonathan Adams, Jois Thomas, Sonni Ali Adrean Adams, Ashley Adams, Kyron Adams, Cameron Adams; Ten great grans and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
