Ernestine L. Jackson was born June 14, 1925, in Blackwell, Arkansas to Clarence Elbert and Gabrilla Hensley Downs. A long time resident of Russellville, Arkansas, and the widow of Jewell B. Jackson Sr., she passed away on July 18, 2016, in Kindred Hospital South Bay in Gardena, Calif. Mrs. Jackson worked as a beautician and an educator in the Russellville area (Conway and Pope Counties). She started out in conjunction with her sister-in-law at the Bethlehem Day Care Center. She went on to work in several day care centers in the Russellville area from 1963 to 1987. She retired as a Head Start teacher from Arkansas Tech, now known as AR-Tech Child Development Center. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda L. Sweatt-Martin of Hawthorne, California, and Chandra E. Jackson of Russellville; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Funeral service for Mrs. Jackson will be Saturday, August 6, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at Pleasant Hill #2 Missionary Baptist Church, State Highway 64 in Kenwood, Arkansas by Rev. Luke Hawkins. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Kenwood, Arkansas.
