Obituary

On October 30, 1932, Helen Louise was born in Morrilton, Arkansas to Orean (Nabors) Brown and K.C. Brown.After her Mothers death, at a very early age, her father married Ethel Gilreath.Helen was the first born of six children. At the age of thirteen, Helen and her sister, Mary Lois joined Saint Paul AME Church during a revival at St. Matthew No. 2 under the leadership of Reverend Mason. She attended school in the Morrilton Community and graduate from L.W. Sullivan High School in Morrilton, Arkansas.On June 21, 1958, she married Joseph D. Rice.They lived in Morrilton and raised a family of seven children, one girl and six boys. She devoted the majority of her time working as a faithful mother. Her husband passed away in 1974 after sixteen years of marriage.She remained a widow until her death.She was well known as a great cook who put on enormous Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners that hosted over seventy-five people going and coming all day long. She loved her family and her childrens friends. She loved serving people with gratitude and a smile. In 1975, she became a member of Trinity Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor F.R. Morris.She served as a choir member, usher and treasurer.As an usher, she served until she could no longer stand at her post.Her favorite song was Precious Lord. She had a serious sweet tooth and loved candy, peanuts and desserts.She was especially proud of all of her children and grand-children.One of her most precious moments was Sunday evening, when everybody would pile in the car and go for a Sunday evening ride. She loved to ride around and enjoy the view around sunset time. Her favorite sayings were them tall ones are my boys and I aint going to tell you again.She was proud of the fact that all of her boys were over six feet tall. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Joseph D. Rice, her daughter, Mary Rice-Shavers, one sister Betty Hill, her brother Bobby Brown, and one brother-in-law, Vincent Joe Hill. On February 15, 2015, she entered eternal rest at the age of 82. She realized this earth was not her home.She leaves to celebrate her life; one daughter, Vivian (Oscar) Fuller of Conway, AR, six sons, Joseph Rice of Morrilton, Arkansas, Pastor Charles E. (Elaine) Brown and Michael (Porchia) Rice of Plumerville, Arkansas, Dennis (Diane) Rice of Allen, Texas, Robert (Regina) Rice of Sherwood, Arkansas and Kevin (Laurie) Rice of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, three Sisters, Mary L. Easter of Detroit, Michigan, Minnie Brown of Morrilton, Arkansas, Mattie Lee Huey of California, one brother, Billy (Foresteen) Brown of Wichita, Kansas, one sister-in-law, Valarie Holmes of Houston, TX, twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service for Mrs. Rice will be Saturday, February 21, 2015 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Plumerville, Arkansas by Rev. Delbert R. Brown. Interment will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Morrilton. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. the day of the funeral. Family visitation will be Friday, February 20, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Wilson & Jarrett Funeral Home.
