Obituary

Mrs. Izola Shavers, 95 of Morrilton, Arkansas transitioned on January 26, 2023. Izola was born February 8, 1927, to the late Payton & Arizona McCoy Hood. She was the 1st of 9 children. She joined Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member until her health failed. Izola served on the mother board & helped on the Hospitality Committee for numerous of years. Izola married John H Shavers, to this union eleven children were born. Izola retired from Hendrix College after working as a cook for several years. She also worked as a custodian for Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church. She helped the sick and needy of the Menifee Community. Izola was always willing to feed anyone that needed food. She helped in raising several children and never turned anyone away. Izola really Loved the Lord, she was the epitome of a Christian woman. She listened to gospel music daily her hobbies included: reading her bible, cooking, cross word puzzles and getting dressed up for church. She loved her church and family especially her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; four children, Betty Godbold, Vera Carroll, Donna Shavers and Elijah Shavers; seven sibling, Aaron Hood, Bobby Hood, Lizitta Gray, Margie Dickerson, Inez Green, Jennie M Johnson, & Nathaniel Hood. She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters; Johnnie Oliver and Sarah (Tony) Foster both of Menifee, Arkansas; Linda Shavers and Brenda (Larry) Steward both of Hot Springs, Arkansas; three sons, Larry Shavers, and Maurice (Phyllis) Shavers both of Menifee, Arkansas, Richard Shavers of Hot Springs Arkansas; brother, Theodore Hood of Russellville, Arkansas. She had 27 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 33 great-great-grandchildren for a total of 106. She had a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
