Obituary

Mrs. Josephine Grayson, 90 of Conway, Arkansas transitioned on Monday, September 15, 2025. Birdie Josephine Grayson, born Sunday, May 19, 1935, was the only child born to Levewitt and Virgie Lee Anderson Gatewood. This only child became the mother of nine children whom she loved dearly. Seven of those children were still with her at the time of her earthly departure. Throughout her journey with the horrible monster called Dementia she never forgot whom her children, grandchildren, or great grands were, or stopped telling them how much she loved them. They are thankful to God for that and will never forget her, the Queen of the GrayGate clan. She worked for Ottenheimer Brothers, aka Kellwood, until she became a homemaker in her mid-forties. Josephine could sew, cook, design furniture, and decorate a room. She also had a green thumb and could grow any kind of plant, be it in or outdoors. With all these gifts she was able to bless her family, as she made Easter and Fourth of July outfits, bedroom furnishings, and decorated her home beautifully. Her children and their friends loved her fried chicken, candied yams and brown beans. Her father believed in education and wanted her to become a teacher. Although Josephine didn't teach in the classroom, she taught her children, grandchildren, great grands and great great grands. She taught them important life lessons that they will never forget. Josephine encouraged them not to make the same mistakes that she had, all while imparting many words of wisdom to live by. Josephine was the oldest living lady in the Gold Lake Community. She was the Mother of the Church for Christ Temple Holiness Church in Conway. They showered her with much love and admiration. She loved God and her church. She believed in the power of prayer. She was spoiled by her parents, her husband of 32 years Lee Andrew Grayson Sr., her children, and her grandchildren. She affectionately called herself Mrs. Winthrop because she lived so well and was spoiled by those around her. Josephine traveled throughout the United States, visiting almost all 50 states, and to such places as the Bahamas, the Caribbean islands, Greece, Africa, Mexico, Italy, and Spain. She traveled by plane, train, auto and ship. She was blessed to see the first black President of the United States. She often marveled at the changes that had taken place since she was a young woman. Although you're gone, I'm not alone, And never shall I be, For the precious memories of the bond we shared Will never depart from me.
