The book of life opened for Ladell on March 11, 1931 in Morrilton, Arkansas. He was the son of the late Russell Toney and Lela M. Everette Toney. He departed this life on Tuesday, June 6, 2013 at 11:05 A.M. at the Northwest Health Care Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Morrilton, Arkansas under the leadership of Rev. L.W. Mason. He completed high school at L.W. Sullivan in Morrilton, Arkansas. He joined the U.S. Army and served until he was honorably discharged May 23, 1952, Private 1st Class Regular Army Company, Engineer Combat Platoon at Ft. Lewis, Washington. Mr. Toney made his home in Wichita, Kansas. He married Gwendolyn Tucker and to this union, four beautiful children were born, Raphael Toney of Taylor Ridge, IL, Cynthia Scales of Wichita, KS, Kathy Pyles of Elgin, South Carolina and Ladell Toney, Jr. whopreceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. He served as deacon at the Church of God in Christ for many years under the leadership of Elder Kenneth L. Davis. He owned his own landscaping business (Toney's Lawn Service) for over 30 years. Later in life, Mr. Toney made his home in Indianapolis, IN and married Ethel Roseburrow. He gladly accepted four children, Glenda Faye White of Little Rock, AR, Pearlie Ann Sanders of Plumerville, AR, Sandra Martin of Little Rock, AR and James F. Roseburrow of Plumerville, AR. Mr. and Mrs. Toney united with the Robinson Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Willie D. Winfry. Mr. Toney leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Ethel Toney of Indianapolis, IN, seven children,fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, three brothers, Ben Toney and John Toneyboth of Cleveland, OH and Emeral Toney of Indianapolis, IN, six sisters, Edith Logan, Tulsa,OK, Willie Baker and Sylvia Stewart of Indianapolis, IN, Willie Surratt of Morrilton, AR, Jean Hervey of Plumerville, AR and BrendaHayden of Cleveland, OH,numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral service for Mr. Toney will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 14, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Plumerville by Rev. David E. Cox. Interment will be in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery 1501 West Maryland Avenue, North Little Rock, AR, 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 17, 2013. Family visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the funeral home.
