Ludy Harris Neal, age 96, of Lenexa, Kansas (formerly of Winnsboro, LA) passed away Saturday, October 27, 2012. She was born March 14, 1916 in Winnsboro to the late Willie and Hannah Harris. She was the second oldest of seven children. She was educated in the Franklin Parish School System. She received her Bachelor Of Science Degree from Grambling College. She served as an educator in the Franklin Parish School System for thirty years. She was a member of the Franklin Parish Retired Teachers Association (LEA). She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Mount Zion Church of Christ Holiness U.S.A. under the pastorate of Elder N.S. Cann. During her years of membership, she served in various capacities in the Local Church, District and Diocese. Mother Neal served as Sunday School Teacher, choir member, President of the Mothers and Deaconess Board and President and Secretary of the Mission Department in the local church. She served as President of the Women's Department of the Second District for twelve years; Vice-President of the Southwestern Diocese Women's Department for eight years and Local Church, District and Diocese Missionary for many years. She later relocated to Hope, AR and united with Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she served as the Church Mother until her relocation to Lenexa, KS. However, her membership remained at Greater Hope MBC until her demise. She married Carey Neal on October 4, 1936. To this union, twelve children were born. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years; four children; three brothers, Edison Harris, Herman Harris and Roosevelt Shepard; four sisters, Florence Rogers, Naomi Foy, Mittie Hollinquest and Willie Mae Miles. Her memory is joyously celebrated by her children, Carey E. Neal Sr. (Pearl)of Stockton, California, Barbara J. Wilson of Morrilton, Arkansas, Betty J. Neal of Lenexa, Kansas, Lonnie R. Neal of Winnsboro, Louisiana, Elmer L. Neal of Conway, Arkansas, Evelyn Burdette (Cleotis)of Hope, Arkansas, Russell L. Neal, Sr.(Wanda) of Hope, Arkansas and Christopher W. Neal, Sr. (Karen) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren,10 great-great grandchildren,a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Winnsboro Second Baptist Church 926 Bosworth Street.Rev. Russell L. Neal, Sr. will be the eulogist. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in Winnsboro by Richardson and Sims Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Arrangements by Wilson & Jarrett Funeral Home
