Obituary

Mrs. Mildred C. Heaggans 90, of Morrilton, Arkansas transitioned on Sunday, April 14, 2024. On December 7, 1933, Deacon Leonard and Sis. Selchia Cain, made the world a better place with the birth of their second child, their oldest daughter, Mildred Pearline (Cain) Heaggans. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Center Ridge, Arkansas. She attended and graduated from Conway County Training School of Menifee, Arkansas in 1949. On February 24, 1952, she was united in marriage to the late Rev. Herbert J. Heaggans and to this union, five children were born. She moved to the Spring Valley Community where she united with the Spring Valley Baptist Church. After her husband received his call into the ministry, she supported him in his pastoral charge with the Mt. Pisgah and Pilgrim Baptist churches and as he served as Moderator of the Cypress Creek District and President of the Cypress Creek District Church Union. She was active in the Women's Missionary Society; however, she was always willing to help wherever and whenever needed. Mildred's resume began with being a waitress and cook at Warren's Cafe. In 1966, she successfully completed the Licensed Practical Nursing curriculum and graduated from Petit Jean Vocational School. She was the first African American female to complete this course. She became licensed in 1967. She was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (Ambulance) in 1973. In 1978, she became a licensed Psychiatric Technical Nurse. She retired after being employed in the medical field for more than 30 years. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Ardis S. Cain; two children, Herbert Ray and Carolyn Marie. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Jeanette (Bobby) McDaniel of Plumerville, Arkansas; James Terrence "Terry" (Charlotte) Heaggans of Morrilton, Arkansas; and Sheila Thompson of Little Rock, Arkansas; four grandsons, Aaron "Chris" McDaniel (Christina), of Conway, Arkansas; Robert C. Cummings of Little Rock, Arkansas, Jason D. Heaggans of Russellville, Arkansas, Terrence A. Heaggans (Elizabeth) of Bryant, Arkansas; four great- grandaughters, Jade McDaniel, Braelyn McDaniel, Autumn Cummings, and Ariana Heaggans; four sisters, Thelma Rex of Oklahoma City, OK, Juanita (Thomas) Brown of Lisle, IL, Helen (Jerry) Jackson of Columbus, OH and Marilyn (Lawrence) Jacobs of Little Rock, Arkansas; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
