Obituary

Norman was born in Kingston, Jamaica to the union of Lloyd and Hazel Shirley. He attended Wolmer's Boys School during his childhood years and throughout high school. Wanting to pursue a better and higher education, he left Jamaica in1969 to come abroad to the United States, where heenrolled atArkansas AM&N College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He graduated from AM&N with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He was a recipient of a heart transplanton September 26, 1994. This heart was meant for him because God gave Norman an additional seventeen years to live and he continued to serve God. He dedicated his time and energy working with Aurora, a foundation for organ donors and organ recipients. He participated in the Olympic Transplant Games, that were held every two years in different parts of the country, by throwing the shot put and playing table tennis.Norman enjoyed his time with everyone he worked with and developed many great relationships with people who had transplants as well. He had a heart of gold and shared his wisdom with everyone. He was a man of integrity and a true man of God.Norman became a member of Christ Temple Holiness Church Conway, Arkansas under the former leadership of Elder Rodney Magee. He continued as a faithful member under the presentPastor Willie L. Owens, Jr. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for over ten years. Norman is preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. Norman leaves behind his wife, Laura Shirley of North Little Rock, AR, his beloved daughter, Ariel Shirley-Bruton & son-in-law, Jeffrey Bruton (Jacksonville, AR), whom he loved very much, his sister, Sharon Shirley-Brown (New York), step-daughters,Olympia (Jeremy)Atkinson of Little Rock, AR, Carlie Rogers (Dallas,TX), step-sons,Bobby Rogers of Little Rock, AR and Eric Ogans of Bartlesville, OK,a host of family,nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mr Shirley will be Saturday, October 8, 2011, at 12 noon at Christ Temple Holiness Church 820 Willow St, Conway, AR by Elder Willie L Owens, Jr. The body will lie in state from 11 to 12 at the church the day of the funeral.
