Obituary

Mr. Powell Odom, Sr., affectionately known as (Pa Pa, Papa Powell, and PO) was born May 5, 1908 to the loving marriage of James and Ardelia Odom, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by ten siblings. He was one of the oldest men in Conway County and the oldest in the Mt. Olive Community where he was born and raised. He peacefully laid hissoul in the loving,awaiting arms of Jesus as he slept early Tuesday morning, October 13, 2009 between the hours of 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. in his home under the watchful care of his devoted son, Powell Odom, Jr. He confessed a hope in Christ as aschild and was a longlifetime member ofGreater Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Plumerville,Arkansas. Mr. Odom was loved and respected by all who knew him. As a youth he attended school in Menifee, Arkansas. He had a sharp mind and common sense that landed him amath scholarship at the now University of Arkansas of Pine Bluff. He was an outdoorsman, a lover of nature; he loved working with his hands. He worked as a truck logger, landscaper, farmer, and raising livestock. Mr.Odom was also known as one of the best baseball players ofhis time. He played with the Old Negro League. He leaves to cherish his memory and carry on the legacy, three sons; his devoted son Powell Odom Jr. of the home, Virgil Odom of Benton, AR, and Robert Odom (Sherry) of Sacramento,CA; one precious daughter, Rita Odom DeLoney (Kent) of Mabelvale, AR; also , James Howard (Lula) of Morrilton, AR, Elsie Hubbard of Dallas, TX, Harold Barnes of SanDiego,CA, DianeBrown (Albert) of Morrilton, AR, Leonard Barnes (Dora) of Sherwood, AR, Rebecca Barnes of Little Rock, AR, Peggy Clemons (Jerry) of Morrilton, AR andMarvin Howard of Sacramento, CA; twenty-onegrandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Services for Mr. Odom will be Saturday, October 17, 2009, 11:00 A.M. atGreater Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Plumerville, Arkansas by Rev. Murry L. Tucker. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
