Ralph (Sarge) ONiel Canady was born on September 22, 1949 in Cleveland, Arkansas to Oniel and Marzetta Byers Canady. He was the eighth born of twelve children to their union. He departed this life on April 29, 2015 at his home on Morrilton, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Juanita Canady and two brothers Clyde and Phayon Canady. He was educated in the Arkansas Public School System attending Center School, Conway County Training School in Menifee, Arkansas and graduating from Wonderview High School in 1967. He accepted Christ and joined the New Prospect Baptist Church at an early age. He later joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. He reunited with New Prospect after retirement, where he served on the Usher Board and printed the church programs. Ralph enlisted in the United States Department of the Air Force with a deployment to Vietnam. After serving 21 years, he received an honorable discharge on April 30, 1990. Before leaving the service, he traveled all over the world. He worked for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (The Metro) Ryder Bus Co. from 1985 to 1999, USD 500 Bus Co. from 2010. He also worked part for B & C Charter Bus. After retiring, he moved back to Arkansas. He was an avid domino player. He was very competitive and very hard to beat. Sarge was a big sports fan of basketball, baseball and especially football. You better not say anything bad about K.C. Chiefs. He would go to war with you. He was married to Shirley A. Canady and to this union, one son, Andre Canady was born. The marriage was dissolved and he later married Ava J. Bell, there were no children. He leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Andre Canady of Denver, CO, one daughter, Tamisha Canady of Washington, D. C., seven grandchildren, Tameya Canady of Washington, D.C., Andre Jr., ~ Jezadiah, JeDon, Jerrell, Qwaje and Kyja Canady all of Denver, CO, five sisters, Virginia Collins of Monticello, AR, Florine Davis and Margaret Johnson (Rev. Willie Johnson) of Cleveland, AR, Freida Brooks of Conway, AR,and Edith Clark of Kansas City, MO, three brothers, Clarence Canady (Janet) of Kansas City, MO, Graylin Canady (Elmada) of Cleveland, AR and Woodrow Canady (Julia) of Plumerville, AR, two sisters-in-law Janice Canady of Kansas City, MO and Elsie Canady of Kansas City, KS, a special friend, Jennifer Foster of Morrilton, AR and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and other family and friends. Ralph mentored Stephon Whitfield of Kansas City, MO. Funeral service for Mr. Canady will be Friday, May 8, 2015 at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, Arkansas by Rev. Willie Johnson. Interment will be Monday, May 11, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery, 1501 Marilyn Avenue in North Little Rock.
