Rickey Lynn Mitchell was born on February 18, 1963 in Morrilton, Arkansas. He was the tenth child born to Roger and Essie Hunter Mitchell both preceded him in death. Rickey was baptized at an early age at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Kenwood, Arkansas under the pastorate of the late Rev. J.L. Stewart. His formative years of development and education were in the South Conway County School District. Rickey attended elementary school at Northside Elementary and his junior and senior high years at Morrilton Junior and Senior High School where he was an outstanding Devil Dog athlete lettering in three sports-football, basketball and track, in one year. His basketball talents were rewarded with a scholarship to Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas where he continued to play for his beloved coach John Widner. Although Rickey loved basketball, his true high school love was Miss Valerie Mills who he married in 1984. To this union, twochildren were born: Rickey Jr. of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Nickalas of Conway, Arkansas. The couple later divorced but remained good friends. After leaving college, Rickey joined the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY and various locations in Germany in the 29th Infantry Battalion. He was an artillery specialist and received the Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon; Army Good Conduct Medal; Marksman Badge with M16 Rifle and Marksman Badge with Hand Grenade Bar. His later occupations included letter carrier and union representative for the United States Postal Service and owner of Rick's Auto in Russellville, Arkansas. He leaves to cherish his memory; sons Nickalas and Rickey Mitchell Jr.; five devoted brothers, Bobby and Jerry Mitchell of Morrilton, Arkansas, Larry and Gary Mitchell of Conway, Arkansas and Ronald (Renita) of Phoenix, AZ; six devoted sisters; Billie Houmbert and Mary (Madison) Davis of Little Rock, Arkansas; Wanda (Charles) Ausler of Plumerville, Arkansas; Brenda (Michael) Williams of Morrilton, Arkansas; Betty Mitchell and Rosa (Boston) Floyd of Sacramento,CA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral service for Mr. Mitchell will be Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthew No.2 Missionary Baptist Church,1600 W. Church Street, Morrilton, Arkansas by Dr. Henry Harris. Burial will be at Oddfellows Cemeteryin Morrilton
