Roy Lynn Wert, 70 of Menifee transitioned on January 3, 2024, at Conway Regional Hospital. Roy Lynn Wert was born on November 1, 1953, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was the cherished son of the late Leroy Wert and Opha Jean Jackson Wert, and his journey began in the small town of Menifee, Arkansas. Roy's life was marked by resilience, determination, and a profound love for life that touched everyone around him. As a proud Mustang, he walked the halls of East Side High, graduating with the Class of 1971. It was during these formative years that Roy's love for singing blossomed and his smooth, bass voice left an indelible mark on the high school choir. Fueling his musical aspirations, Roy earned a music scholarship to Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas. There, he not only pursued his academic endeavors, but also lent his voice to the Philander Smith Mass Choir. His melodious contributions resonated far beyond his time at Philander, becoming a cherished part of the choirs annual performances. In pursuit of a different stage, Roy enlisted in the United States Navy, ready to serve his country with dedication. Despite an honorary medical discharge from the military due to sickle cell anemia, Roy's spirit remained unbroken. On January 24, 1976, Roy sealed a lifelong duet by marrying his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Ann McIntosh. Together, they composed a beautiful symphony of love, laughter, and resilience. Their family grew to include four wonderful children: Joanna, Stephanie, Roy II, and Sherita. Together they embarked on entrepreneurship with Scorgo's – a family restaurant that became a beloved community hub. In a bold move to honor his father's legacy, Roy left the Paper Mill to set about on his own entrepreneurial journey. He threw his support behind Wert's Electric; his father's business was close to his heart. In his pursuit to sharpen his mechanical and leadership skills, Roy worked at Kimberly Clark, in Conway, before leaving to start his own business. After developing a vocational program to train participants to rewind and repair electrical motors, his industrious spirit motivated Roy to master grant writing. River Valley Contract Manufacturing Facility was birthed from his hard work. An active citizen in the community, Roy was the driving force behind the Menifee Voluntary Fire Department, where he proudly served as its inaugural fire chief. His impact extended to the church, where he supported his pastor's vision in obtaining a full grant for a community garden, transforming an urban part of North Little Rock for a future food oasis. Roy accepted Christ at an early age at Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church, where he eagerly served in the church choir. Later, he became a member of Agape Community Temple of Servants (ACTS) in Conway, Arkansas. He was very influential in the Men's Ministry and alongside his wife, they were one of the couple-coordinators of the Marriage Ministry. Roy's life story captured the attention of UAMS Health - Sickle Cell Clinic - Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, who wished to conduct a case study on his remarkable life battling sickle cell anemia disease. Unfortunately, Roy passed away before they could undertake this research, leaving behind a legacy that speaks volumes about his strength and tenacity. His resilience became a source of hope for others battling similar health conditions. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles. Roy is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia, four children: Joanna Toney, Stephanie Bailey, Roy Wert II (LaShonda) and Sherita Lewis (Ronnie); sisters, Marcia Calvin (Lloyd), Tameria Franklin (the late Rayford), Regina Hogan (Charles); grandchildren, Bret Blackman Jr, Joshua Wert, Kameron Bailey, Asia Bailey, Aisha Bailey, Zakiya Wert (his BEST FRIEND), Janiya Williams, Roy Wert III; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Roy's passing leaves a void in our hearts, but his legacy lives on in the memories of those who were touched by his kindness, strength, and love. As we mourn his departure, let us celebrate the extraordinary life he led and the profound impact he had on the community. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27 Vance-Wilson & Jarrett Funeral Directors "The Epitome of Service"
