Sherman Augustus Garlington was born on May 16, 1934 in Hattieville, Arkansas to the late Benjamin Franklin Garlington Sr.and Anna Louise Byers Garlington. At an early age, he accepted Christ and professed thechristian faith and united with New Prospect Baptist Church in Hattieville, Arkansas where he served as Superintendent of Sunday School. Singing was his passion and he served faithfully as a member of the Male Chorus until the Lordcalled him home. He was gifted in the art of drawing and he loved to tell jokes. He also loved his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a laborer in the sawmill industry for many years. He moved to Kansas City and worked in construction. He later returned to Arkansas and was employed by Conway County Road Department and Wonderview School District from which he retired. He departed this life on January 21, 2012 at Conway Regional Hospital. Heleaves to cherish his memories: threesons, Gene (Anita)Canady and Ronnie Garlington both of Morrilton and Van (Nanette)Garlington of Hattieville, Arkansas, six daughters, Linda (Joe)Calvin, Edith (Jamie)Canady, Sharon (Bennie)Wright and Janet (Stanley)Brown all of Morrilton, Deirdra Bell and Angela (Chris)Riggins both of Conway, Arkansas,five brothers, Benjamin (Mae) Garlington, Thurman (Toyce) Garlington, Wayne (Juliette) Garlington, Truman (Marsetta) Garlington of Kansas City, Kansas and Ladell (Doris) Garlington of Kansas City, Missouri,four sisters, Lillian (Wilbur) Moore of Morrilton, Vanessa Spencer, and Mary Alice Wallace of Kansas City, Missouri, Dorthelia (James) Daniels of Kansas City, Kansas, fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. He will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral service for Mr. Garlington will be Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Patrick Greene, Sr. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 the day of the funeral. Burial will be in New Mt. Zion Cemetery in Hattieville, Arkansas.
