Obituary

Theresa Mitchell Laws was born on May 24, 1920 to Roscoe Mitchell and Luvenia Reese in the St. John Community of Plumerville, Arkansas. She attended school in the St. John Community where both her mother and father were teachers. At the age of 12, Theresa was baptized by Rev. P.H. Clemons and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Theresa became a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in 1940 where she was an active member until God called her home. She had many gifts. but most notably, Theresa taught the Adult Women's Sunday School Class for 55 years. She also served as ""Mother"" of the church. Never one to hold her tongue, Theresa counseled many young ladies, telling them how to become good women and good mothers. She was also the example. At age 17, Theresa lost her mother. After this act of God, Theresa moved to live with her grandmother, Ida Reese, of Plumerville, Arkansas. On August 10, 1940, Theresa married Learm Laws and to this union nine children were born. Two children preceded her in death, Freddie and James. Her siblings who preceded her in death were: Willie Lee Abrams, Mary Mitchell, May Bell Abrams, Ethel Abrams and Beatrice Abrams. Also two brothers, Orville Abrams and Belton Abrams preceded her in death. From these nine children, Theresa was blessed with 35 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. My, what a blessing! She called her children her shade trees and they gave her plenty of shade to enjoy. Theresa had many nicknames. Over the years she was a ""Rock"", some called her ""Russ"", ""Sunshine"", but to her children, she was just, ""MOM"". Always a very industrious person, in 1960 Theresa started her own upholstery business, which she ran from her home for 25 years.
