Verma Doss was born on July 7, 1917 in Springfield, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Daisy and Guy Harris. Verma was united in holy matrimony with Arthiemer Doss in 1941 at the age of 24. Together, they bore six children: Barbara Jean Pitts, Helen Ruth Washington, Audra Mae Doss, Velma Rea Jefferson, Lloyd Allen Doss, and Billie Faye Martinez-Jenkins. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mt. Hebrew Church in Springfield, Arkansas. The Lord called Verma home on September 16, 2008 after 91 years of sharing her love, laughter and wisdom with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Daisy Harris; three sisters, Audra Dean Harris, Mable Acker, Dwendlyn Saulsbury; and two brothers, Eural Harris and Oral Harris; and one son Lloyd Doss. Her celebration of life will be remembered by her sister Flavia Allen; five daughters, Barbara Jean Pitts, Helen Ruth Washington, Audra Doss, Velma Jefferson, and Billie Martinez-Jenkins; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a very special friend - Carolyn Swaffer.
