Mckey, Sr.
January 30, 1942 – June 27, 2013
On January 30, 1942 Warren Anthony McKey was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the third child of five born to the late Peter and Ida Mckey. Warren graduated from St. Augustine HighSchool in New Orleans, Louisiana class of 1960. He then enlisted into the military service, United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1965. He lived in Los Angeles, California for several years and was managerof McKey's Seafood House in South Central Los Angeles.He was a certified cement mason and helped with the construction of numerous buildings in downtown Los Angeles and surrounding townships. After relocating to Cleveland, Arkansas, he furthered his education at Petit Jean Vocational College with coursesin electrical and refrigeration skills. He wasalso the director of the Head Start Program for children in the Center Community for several years. Warren was a very ambitious young man and active innumerous community and county wide activities. Hehad a great enterprising spirit and felt the need to have hisown business and be ""His Own Man."" He bought two lots, built a shop and started McKey's Lawn Service at 209 E. Vine Street in Morrilton, Arkansas. His business later expanded to include a U-Haul franchise and moving service. Heemployed several young men in the community and was very partial to those that he thought just needed a second chance. He was very active with the Conway County City Council and attended meetings regularly. He was also a member of the Conway County Branchof the NAACP and a faithful supporter of its fund raising efforts. Warren was employed by Wilson and Jarrett Funeral Home until his health failed. On June 27, 2013 at 9:59 P.M., Warren left this life to enter into eternal rest. He realized and accepted this earth was not his home. Warren leaves to celebrate his life his loving wife, Ruth McKey of Cleveland, AR, three sons, Warren (Tony) McKey (Carolyn), Lester McKey and Lorne McKey (Tamala) all of Morrilton AR, , two daughters, Duroncela McKey-Richardson and Yolonda Hickman (Rickey)both of Morrilton, AR, three bonus sons, Eric Watson, Randall Richardson and Antonio (A.D.) Watson,three brothers, Peter McKey, Jr. (Ester) of Jeffersonville, IN, Lawrence McKey, Sr. (Shirley) of Concord, CA and Richard McKey of Conway, AR, one sister, Wylene Haynes of Conway, AR, 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren,two special aunts, Jeanne Gabriel of New Orleans, LA and Camille McKey of Atlanta, GA, his close and dear friends Edward (Ed) Ross, Albert (Pete) Toney, Robert Black, Sr., Roger Black Jr. and Albert White, Sr., numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Funeral service for Mr. McKey was 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, AR by Rev. Kerwin Rainey. Interment wasin Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Cleveland, AR.
